Photo What should be the top 5 items needed to start my own Business?
Posted by: abc - 01-11-2022, 02:31 PM - Forum: Thinking About Starting a Home Care Agency - No Replies

Not sure where to start but on a tight budget, what do you think the first priority should be before starting? Huh
After the company name has been registered and Tax numbers received.
Any suggestions?

1) Register Company?
2) Business Templates for a care contract
3) Business Cards and Website? (Do I need this?)
4) ?
5) ?

Thanks in advance

  Easy Branding Ideas (business cards)
Posted by: abc - 11-09-2020, 08:02 PM - Forum: Brand your Business - No Replies

Hello All,

I'm not sure if this is what you mean but.
I have to say, one of my favorite places for getting some branding ideas is VistaPrint.
I was able to get some nice business cards with a note space on the back to hand out, also some fun merchandise to give to a few people like Pens and pads.

Highly recommended!  vistaprint.com

They provide you with templates and even can create your own logo there!  One-stop shop! Rolleyes

What are your thoughts?
Do you think they are even safe?
I really like the fact that people can see my smile and not just my squinty eyes.   Tongue

The price is good, I might order a few!

Thumbs Up Save your money for transition periods between clients

Good rule of thumb is to save three months worth of income over time that a client was bringing in. You need time to find the right new senior client to fill your available time slot. Taking the first available gig will cause so much stress- plan, and be prepared.

Exclamation Why Declaring your Income is Beneficial
Posted by: dfoley - 06-17-2020, 01:40 PM - Forum: Canada - No Replies

Caregivers that have a registered business or declared income were the ones who were protected here in Canada . Our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau very swiftly provided Canadians with financial support through a program called CERB The Canadian Response Benefit. $2000/month for 16 weeks, and yesterday he announced that he is extending it by 8 more weeks which will carry us through to the beginning of September 2020. Part of me feels so bad for the caregivers who were not declaring their income, but at the same time part of me does not. Taxes are a huge cut out of your income, but it is times like this that protect us as caregivers. Honestly I feel a feature benefit to becoming a caregiver for seniors should allow us to be exempt from paying tax like Registered Nurses are.(at least this is the case in Quebec)

Heart Client passed aways days before caregivers were shut out!

One of my clients passed away Feb 28th here in Montreal, Canada. She was living in a public residence that was heavily infected with Covid-19. I still can not believe the timing! just before COVID-19! Before everything shut down and family and caregivers were not allowed in! She was surrounded by all her children for two straight weeks day and night in her final days. Public residences here in Montreal started allowing private caregivers to go back to their regular clients a couple months ago-phewSmile  Heart

Question Private Care in Public Residences
Posted by: dfoley - 06-17-2020, 01:16 PM - Forum: Issues Working Privately in Facility - No Replies

What has your experience been starting as a new private caregiver in a gov't run public seniors residence? Were you met with resistance or open arms? I find working in a public residence I was met with a brick wall of resistance at first but as time went on and I demonstrated that I could provide additional assistance they really warmed up and and were so happy to see me arrive each visit. I am not going to lie, it was difficult at first and I felt like an intruder. Slowly the staff started to ask questions about how I started my business and asked how they could too! So really what was going on was not that they were against me, but just the opposite-they simply did not understand how the private senior care sector works. Fear of the unknown I guess. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
